1931 Model A Pickup - post 3 - Parts back from sand blaster

Here's a few of the parts that just came back from the sand blaster.  The box and doors should be sand blasted and ready for pick up early this week.

 

 

1931 Model A Pickup - post 2 - BRASS steering column support

The previous shop had painted the steering column support inside the truck cab.  When uncovering the old paint we discovered that the support is actually made of solid brass.  Bill still has some polishing to do but it is going to be a really neat accent on the interior of the truck.

1931 Model A Pickup - post 1

Tim Peterson of Menomonie, WI has been working on this 1931 Model A Ford Truck project for a number of years in his garage.  He recently brought us the cab, box, running boards, side aprons and a number of other parts to be finished, and painted.  The running motor and chassis has been completely restored and awaits the finished parts back in Menomonie, WI.  He hopes to have this truck on the road next summer.  Check back for more pictures of the progress on this truck.

Another shop had painted this cab a few years ago.  The paint didn't meet Tim's expectations so we're re-sanding, smoothing, filling the pits, priming and painting the truck.  The color is going to be a 1931 Ford Factory color "Rubelite Red".  The fenders and running boards will be black and the wheels will be "wheat".

 Here's Bill hard at work "blocking" the inside of the cab.

We brought the unfinished and rusty parts including the box, hood, doors, window frames, etc.  to Blast Master in Shakopee to be sand-blasted.

The fenders, running boards and side-aprons will all be new metal.  Here's Bill getting rid of a tiny bit of surface rust on one of the running boards.

 The old Aprons were used as a guide and Bill cut a few holes in the new aprons to match.  The hole in the apron on the left was cut to make way for the spare tire mount that will go on the driver's side of the truck in the front left fender.

 

 After being prepped/sanded, all exposed metal will be acid-etched so that the paint will stick.  Here's what the bare metal looks like after being wiped with the acid-etching solution.
